2005
May 29 - Ryan achieved his yearly challenge to himself, in
which he tries to get his creative writing published
by a respected medium. Usually, Entertainment Weekly
takes the bait, but this year it's the online site of
David Letterman! Each week, the "Late Show" site
posts a Top Ten category, and readers like YOU get to
submit jokes for the list. Dave's writers pick the 10
funniest jokes from thousands of submissions.
So, check it out, and see where his joke placed!Jan. 23 - I must have seen every "Tonight Show" from 1986-1990. Watching the master at work helped develop my sense of humor and was a valuable part of my growing up. Rest in peace, Johnny Carson. Jan. 15 - Follow-up from Ryan - Alas, Entertainment Weekly did not have enough space on its letters page to include my clever little comment, so I'll print it here! (drumroll...) "My wife has officially become one of the Mean Girls. She won't let me look at your Lindsay Lohan cover anymore." Jan. 10 - Ryan's yearly writing challenge to himself may come early this year! Ryan got word that Entertainment Weekly is soon likely to publish his letter to the editor. He won't spoil the surprise, but in the letter, Ryan comments on the magazine's nearly-nude cover photo of Lindsay Lohan! So, take a peek in issue #802, dated January 20, hitting newsstands this Friday!
2004
Dec. 25 - Thanks to your votes, "Tribal
Council" is the 7th most-requested song of 2004 on Dr.
Demento's chart! Take a look! It's been a great year, and I could not have done it without you. Keep
those requests coming in by clicking the Demento link
above. Keep the song alive in 2005! I truly
appreciate your support. Have a happy new year.
And Merry Christmas from Ryan Ho-Ho-Hopak!Nov. 17 - Ryan and Janna make a small TV appearance on TLC's "A Baby Story" Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 9:30a.m. (No, they're not pregnant.) The hour-long episode documents their friends Larry and Peggy Campbell who are having twins. Ryan and Janna pop up in some scenes at the expecting couple's outdoor barbecue. (You'll recognize Larry from ABC's "According To Jim." He went to college with Ryan and Janna.) Oct. 16 - The tribe has spoken! This week, your requests have helped "Tribal Council" notch its 10th week on the Dr. Demento request chart. Check it out! VIEW CHART Thank you so much for your support. Keep those votes coming in by clicking the Dr. Demento link above! June 5 - Sparked by the season finale of "Survivor," "Tribal Council" re-enters the Dr. Demento request chart at #4. That brings the song to a whopping nine weeks in the Funny 5! Please click the Dr. Demento link and request again! View chart Apr. 24 - Ryan has a mention in Entertainment Weekly! Continuing his annual creative writing challenge to himself, Ryan recently had a letter to the editor published in Entertainment Weekly. He comments on a previous issue that featured an entertainment quiz. In big, bold letters at the top of the page, Ryan is quoted as saying, "Your '90s Pop Culture Quiz was brutal! And I've been writing trivia questions for game shows for the last seven years!" What makes it doubly-cool is that the quote is next to a big picture of Bart Simpson giving a thumbs-up! It's in the April 30 double issue (#762/763) with "Spider-Man 2" stars Tobey Maguire & Kirsten Dunst on the cover. And get this! Three years ago, Ryan had ANOTHER mention in Entertainment Weekly when the cover featured "Spider-Man" stars Tobey Maguire & Kirsten Dunst. Coincidence? I think not! (Er, wait... That IS a coincidence. Sorry.) Apr. 17 - Wow! This week, "Tribal Council" spends an eighth week on Dr. Demento's request chart, logging in at #4. It's the show's second most-requested song of the year! Thanks for the votes! View chart Mar. 20 - The on-again/off-again relationship between "Tribal Council" and Dr. Demento's request chart continues. After seven weeks in and out of the Top 5, it's out again. The strength of your votes and "Survivor" may put it back in! Mar. 13 - Thanks for the votes! This week, "Tribal Council" re-enters Dr. Demento's request chart at #4. By my calculations, this makes it the second-most requested song of the year! Keep those votes coming in! You all rock! View chart Mar. 6 - After a fantastic six-week run on Dr. Demento's request chart, "Tribal Council" is kept out of the Top 5 this week by some new songs and old favorites. But the buzz may pick up again because of recent exciting events on "Survivor." If anything, throw me a pity vote. Thanks for visiting! Feb. 28 - "Tribal Council" has been forced off Dr. Demento's request chart by some songs that have to do with Janet Jackson's boob. (God, I think she's really milking this thing) Please vote again by clicking the Demento link. Feb. 21 - Your votes have made "Tribal Council" #2 on this week's Dr. Demento chart. I'm so close to #1 I can taste it, people. And it tastes like chicken. Please click on the Dr. Demento link and request again. View chart Feb. 14 - Thanks for the votes! This week, "Tribal Council" re-enters the Dr. Demento chart at #3! Please make another request via the Dr. Demento link. View chart Feb. 7 - Well, the tribe has spoken, and just like two beloved contestants on "Survivor" this week, my song "Tribal Council" has been, shall we say, voted off the island. After a month of being one of Dr. Demento's Top 5 requests, the song drops off the chart. But darn it, I want to be back on! Click the Dr. Demento link, and throw another request my way! (Somehow I blame Janet Jackson for this) Jan. 31 - There is no Top 5 chart this week, as Dr. Demento is doing a special show saluting the Grammys. The next chart will be announced February 7.  But don't stop requesting! Jan. 24 - After moving from #5 to #3 to #2 on Dr. Demento's request chart, "Tribal Council" holds steady this week at #2. Please click on the Dr. Demento link and make another request. You can view this week's chart via that link, too. Guess what was playing on the radio!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I said "I know who wrote this and who sings it!" I ran out to get Mike to come in and listen. We were so excited for you guys. MAYBE IT WAS A NOD TO ROGER EBERT, WHO'S IN THE NEWS RECENTLY FOR UNDERGOING RADIATION TREATMENT FOR AN ILLNESS. (GET BETTER, ROGER!) ANYWAY, IF YOUR LOCAL RADIO PERSONALITIES ARE TALKING ABOUT EBERT, WHY NOT TELL THEM WHERE THEY CAN HEAR MY SONG? RYANHOPAK.COM THANKS FOR SHARING A MOMENT WITH ME! July 21.
